Paul Jones Woodturning, Furniture Making, Antique Restoration

Woodturner Paul Jones RPT Bollington in Cheshire. Production and Commercial Work

Listed Building Restoration

The main focus of my work these days is production turning for construction companies, new builds and restoration projects.

I also create furniture and component parts, including drawer knobs, cornice and skirting mouldings, gable end finials, table legs and pedestals, chair legs, stairs spindles, curved bannister sections, newel posts and bed posts.  Most of my work is bespoke and small run, which is up to 150 units.

Pictured above is a recent example of an Oak Finial for a listed Tudor building in Chester, one of the historic oak restoration commissions I have completed recently.

I also make unique items of solid wood furniture such as kitchen tables, console tables, coffee tables and chests to order.

The Artistic Side

I still produce hollow forms, sculptural pieces and large diameter bowls and platters mainly, but not exclusively in Sycamore, Beech, Ash and Oak.  Most of this is sourced locally and I try to ensure that wood from other sources comes from a properly managed supply.

On 30th May 2012 I moved into a new workshop in Bollington.  It borders the Peak District and is a stone’s throw from Macclesfield Forest so I can continue to draw on inspiration not only from the wood but from the woodlands and peaks that provide such an abundant supply of material.

My work seeks to express the inherent qualities of the wood itself through form, texture and sometimes colour, always striving to add to and exaggerate it’s inherent beauty and sensuality whilst not overpowering it.  Imperfections, grain and colour all serve to enhance the design and sculpting of each individual piece.

My aim is to express the natural qualities of the wood either simply, through line and form or by creating sculptural, textural and colour contrasts between the decoration and the wood. I do this in the hope of creating objects of beauty that bring pleasure to those who are kind enough to buy them.

Prices

My work sells at prices ranging from £20.00 to over £1,000.00 for the more elaborate and larger pieces. Why not get in touch by email via the contact page or call me to talk about commissions or to ask about some of my work that you may have seen.
