Production Woodturning
This continues to be the mainstay of my work. I make a wide range of products including jewellery items and bobbins at the smaller end to bar-table pedestals, ecclesiastical candlesticks, finials, newel posts, balusters and kitchen components. The work often crosses into restoration when matching profiles for finials, newel post and balusters. I also do a great many kitchen components ranging from knobs and handles for drawers and cabinets to table pedestals, coving and skirting corner blocks and table tops and bases.
I am happy to accept commissions for production work of all types, and I specialise in short run bespoke work. This includes kitchen and furniture components and architectural items together with restoration projects.
Wood Turnings for Kitchen Furniture
These beautifully designed columns and drop finials were for a hand built kitchen made in solid cherry wood by a local cabinet maker.
Stair Components including Balusters and Newel Posts
Most of the work I do in this area is for replacement pieces in larger restoration projects. Here are a few photos of some of the work I have done in this area. If you are looking for turnings to match stair parts please contact me for a quote.
This first image is of some heavy balusters for an old country house restoration in Staffordshire.
The newel posts in the middle here were made to match existing pieces in the Gardeners Cottage Tea Room at Tatton Hall, a restoration project run in conjunction with the National Trust.
This bespoke stair spindle design is based upon the wrought iron stair balusters in an old Manchester building currently undergoing renovation and conversion to a hotel and offices. It was made as a prototype for the contractors and is currently awaiting English Heritage approval. I have a lot of experience in replicating historical and classical turnings.
External Construction Pieces and Finials - Architectural Wood Turnings
This Gallows Bracket was made to match up to existing houses in a very well maintained terrace in South Manchester.
The large finial measures approx 700mm high by 300mm square and has been carved largely out of a single piece of oak. I made it for a restoration project on an old “black and white” Tudor building in Chester.
Working on restoration projects is very satisfying, seeing my work blend in and match with an existing piece of construction.
